Innovative Mobility Services
Over the past decades, information technology has changed the setup of the modern automobile. Back in the Seventies, apart from radios and cassette players, the only standard electronic components on most vehicles were voltage regulators and alternator diodes.
Today, information technology is everywhere throughout the automobile: in standard components such as electronic fuel injection or anti-lock brakes just as in latest features like emergency-braking systems or nightview displays. Only with electronics can today's automobiles meet the latest emissions and safety standards. And it is a safe bet to say that also in the future automotive innovations will be shaped by a large extent through new applications of information technology.
Joint Research
Working together with engineering groups at Daimler AG and faculty teams at the Technische Universität Berlin as well as selected Fraunhofer Institutes, DCAITI is on a charter to investigate both IT-driven product and process innovation in the automotive space. Whereas some of its projects conceive new driver assistance and warning systems, others focus on improving the software engineering process for embedded systems in the car. Quite a few of these efforts are part of larger national and pan-European research initiatives.
Hands-on Teaching
DCAITI staff participates in the academic life at the Technische Universität Berlin through teaching assignments and student supervision. The center encourages students to join its projects and gain first-hand experience in vehicle electronics in the center's garage. Points of contact are listed throughout this website.
